THIS FUNGUS TURNS ANTS INTO REAL ZOMBIES
This is literally a horror movie happening in your backyard.
There's a fungus called Ophiocordyceps and it infects ants. Once it gets inside an ant, it takes over its entire body and brain. The ant can't control itself anymore.
It forces the ant to leave its colony, climb up a high leaf, and bite down as hard as it can. Then the ant dies there. And then the fungus grows a stalk right out of the ant's head and showers spores down to infect more ants below.
The craziest part is the ant is alive and aware while it's being controlled. It just can't stop.
Nature invented zombies way before Hollywood did.
Would you rather be controlled by a fungus or eaten alive?
